Goosey has been busy, busy, busy with crafting! She started visiting my pinterest and then sort of just went to town with it adjusting, changing, and creating making craft after craft! She's made a painted umbrella (took an old umbrella and used acrylic paint-I am hoping it will withstand the elements of rain)! Then she moved onto candle making! This is a bowl filled with coffee beans and 3 tea light candles in it. I must say, the room smells very good when the candles have been lit!! And this is a "snow" looking candle where she took a candle holder and rolled it in salt and glue. The last project she did was making her own home made chalk board. I cut a piece of plywood and then she mixed 1-2 parts of acrylic paint with 1 part plaster of paris. The chalkboard now sits on our kitchen wall and I plan on changing out phrases and sayings that we all like. One of my favorites is on the board right now! While she has been doing that, Speedy and Rosey have been busy working on their 4H projects! Speedy has been concentrating on several projects working on them a little at a time. Rosey has been compiling her projects into presentable formats.

Speedy made his strawberry lemonade today and it has proved to be delicious as always! He combines...
-5 cups water -1 quart of strawberries -3/4 cup suger -3/4 cup lemon juice 1) Wash and take tops off the strawberries and place in a blender. Blend. 2) Pour the blended strawberries into a pitcher with 5 cups of water. 3) Mix-in 3/4 cup of lemon juice and 3/4 cup of suger For the finishing touches he dips the rim of the glass in lemon juice and then dips it into sugar to create a sweet sugary taste as you drink from the cup! He then added a strawberry slice to complete the summery drink! Every year we go strawberry picking so this year was no exception! Once we come home with our pick, Rosey starts to make our batches of jam which we enjoy for the whole year! The recipe she uses is from Ball. Strawberry jelly jam. She has also varied the recipe and added kiwi to the strawberry jam and that is delicious!! Stayed tuned for more strawberry recipes as we make some with all these strawberries we have! :oP
This year we have only seen 2 frogs in our pond and one is just huge! He's the biggest we have seen so far!
Gardening time! This year we planted a little less than usual but we did plant tomatoes, potatoes, green beans, onions, bell peppers, baking pumpkins, some squashes, and carrots! I thought it would be a lot of fun to have a unit study on gardening so that is where Adventures in Gardening came about! We have been doing bits and pieces of the study as time has allowed us and will continue to do it throughout the rest of summer. We made biodegrable containers to put our plants in. We made fairy gardens and will add as time goes on and we may even transfer our fairy gardens to a more suitable container (this was what we had on hand at the moment)! :oP
We are in our summer schedule and have been busy with camps lately! One more week of camps left! In the meantime, the kids have been making a summer fun list of ideas and we have done some of them. I have even created one myself of the many things I have always wanted to do but have never made the time for and it has been fun!
Goosey made some glow in the dark slime by mixing a little more than 1/2 container of white glue (elmers) and 1/2 cup water in a container. In a separate container mix 1/3 cup water with 2 tsp of Borax (you can find this in the laundry section of your store and it will usually be in a big box). *You won't be using all the borax mix.* Add a little spoon at a time of the borax mix to your glue/water mix until you have the consistency that you want (either thick or runny). Then add your glow in the dark paint. Voila, you have glow in the dark slime! |
